Founder Edward Giles Irvin was born on August 13, 1893, in Spencer, Indiana, and enrolled at Indiana University at age 17. He was the youngest of the founders of Kappa Alpha Psi and served on the fraternity’s Incorporation Committee. Irvin left the university in 1911 but played a key role in establishing the fraternity’s legal foundation. He later became a journalist, entrepreneur, and civic leader.
